Doc's Page

DOC

Doc came to us in a special way & he's our Doodle Bug!  He's as mellow as they come, he loves to cuddle, but yet can play like a puppy when he wants...he's only 3 years old afterall!  He loves to play in the snow & bounce around like a bunny; and he loves little kids!!  I hate to say he's your typical bulldog, because if I've learned anything, there is no such thing....but he does love to play & rest & snuggle!  That's the perfect bulldog to me!!

Doc received his first and only point in Duluth, MN in July 2008.  He's enjoying "retirement" by playing with Howie & Vivian...but mostly by just testing out all the bla
nkets in the house!  I'm sure he has found a favorite....or three!

In May 2009, Doc was put on a "diet"....poor Doodle!!  He has gained 8 pounds in 10 months.  YIKES!!  We had his thyroid checked, but it came back normal...which is good, but it means that we're at fault here.  I started cutting back his food portions & he just looks at me like "are you serious?!"  Hahaha!  Ahh...he's taking it all in Doc's normal clam stride & we hope cutting back his food along with his normal walks will help him get back to his svelte self!  We'll weigh him again in a week or two to see if we've made any progress.

Doc went to the vet in August 2009 for his annual exam.  I'm very happy to report that he has lost 6 pounds!  The green beans are paying off!  Just 2 more pounds to lose!  Yay Doc!!!
I'm happy to report, as of February 2010, Doc is down another 3 pounds!  That means he has lost a total of almost 10 pounds since May 2009 when we found out he had gained weight since we got him!  I cannot stress enough the power of green beans!  Especially in the winter!  Doc doesn't like to be outside when it's very cold...he has sensitive paws, so he doesn't get the walks he needs.  I'm very, very happy with the weight loss...as was our vet!
We're so thankful that he came into our lives in 2008, it's been an honor to have him as part of our family!

Broken Hearted

I'm sad to report that today our beloved Doc went to the Bridge.

His symptoms were similar to a brain tumor & while we didn't have the MRI done to confirm, we didn't want him to suffer any more.

I will post more about his symptoms at a later date, but in the meantime, please hug your bullies/dogs/kids a bit tighter tonight for my Doodle.

Doc-you were the coolest dog we've ever met & I'm not saying that because I was your momma.  You did things on "Doctime" & didn't care what we thought of that!  You were the sweetest, taught me how to show & were honestly such a good dog.  Period.  We will love you forever & miss you so much!  Have fun on the Bridge with Ollie, Sassy & Law--please visit us in our dreams!!  Love you Doodle Bug!--Momma Jinny, Momma Jinny & Big Daddy Steve, Howie, Vivi & Pippa

Happy Birthday Doc!!!

Oh what a happy day!!!  Today is Doodle's 7th (can you believe it?) birthday!!!

(Doc today!  7 years young!)
I'm not sure where the last 5 years (that we've had him) went, but they have certainly flew by since we celebrated his 2nd birthday with us!!!
(Doc's 2nd birthday-2008)
He really hasn't changed much in personality in the last 5 years years...he's always been our mellow fellow

with sudden bursts of energy!
He's a nut & I'm so glad that I KNEW he wasn't going to leave the minute he was at my house!  He's such a great dog & is the best big brofur to Howie, Vivi

& Pippa!
Awww Doodle, we love you so much buddy!  We hope you have a great new year!!

Green Beans Work!!

This week Doc went to see Dr Jim for his annual check up. I was looking forward to see how much weight he lost since May. We cut back his food & added green beans as a filler. He loves the green beans, but we haven't done as much exercise as I had hoped we would...but I'm happy to report Doc lost 6 pounds since May!

Yay Doodle!!
We'll continue to have him eat green beans along w/his meals & incorporate as much exercise as possible in order to get those last 2 pounds off of him. Hopefully we'll be just as successful in the next couple months as we were in the last 3. It took 10 months for him to put those 8 pounds on, so I'm glad taking them off isn't taking that long.

Why not Doc?

Some of you may be asking, why I don't walk Doc every morning like I do Vivi (& will now have to do Howie). Well, it's simple really...he's not much of a walker! He's more like a dragger & honestly, that's not how I want to start my mornings & it's not how I want to have his experience with walks.

Plus, every road in our city is under construction & he has very sensitive feet. He doesn't like anything but grass or debris free roads under his feet. I had a very hard time walking him this winter when the roads would thaw & then refreeze...it was so painful for him.

So, Doc does get walks, just not in the mornings before work! Sometimes you just have to pick your battles & understand what your bully does/doesn't, will/won't do...and if that is not a quick walk in the morning, so be it! Afterall, he is a bully...and they can be (GASP) stubborn!!

Where did the week go?

Or better yet...where did JUNE go? WOW!! I can't believe how fast time really does fly when you get older...errr I mean, when you're having fun! This weekend Vivi will have her first sleepover!! We're going to South Dakota for a dog show. It's a big show...bullies have the largest entry over any other breed...that's not very common here in Minnesota!! It should be a good time & I just hope that she'll do well in the ring (i.e. not back up from the judge again). I'll be interested to see how she sleeps outside of our house too. I know it was hard for Howie when I brought him somewhere else to sleep. Doc...nah...he could sleep anywhere!!

We're traveling with her uncle Otto & Momma Sandy, so we'll all have tons o' fun I'm sure!! I packed up (hopefully) everything I need last night & will depart just as soon as I get home from work today. It's a much longer drive than I expected, but hopefully it will go fast...driving w/Sandy it usually does cuz she LOVES to talk!! hahahaha

Howie continues to do well with his rehab & confinement. Last night we did allow him to sit outside of his space since we were both home & could make sure the other two left him be (or didn't get all riled up)...he just seemed soooo happy!! Despite the heat & humidity, Doc still loves the sun. We don't allow him to stay out for longer than a couple mins though...doesn't take long for a bully (or any dog) to overheat...but this morning, when it was cooler, he just sat on the deck & tilted his head up to the sun like he was saying "ahhh this is the life"...that boy loves his sun, just like his momma!!
